  • Introduction

Spotfire Delta Training (v4.5 to v5.0)

Welcome to this training experience. This 'delta' training experience is specifically designed for those individuals who are already familiar with all of the features of TIBCO Spotfire Professional version 4.5 and need to be quickly brought up-to-speed on the new features available in TIBCO Spotfire Professional version 5.0.

Note that this is not intended to be a complete or comprehensive training course. Instead, the lessons below have been extracted from complete training courses - so please use the resources in the bottom section if you wish to learn more about our available training offerings.

    • In-DB Connections

A specific focus of Spotfire version 5.0 is to improve your experiences in working with 'Big Data'. Consequently, an enhancement to the handling of in-memory data now allows data volumes which are orders of magnitude greater than the previous version of the Spotfire analytics platform. In addition, Spotfire 5.0 also extends beyond in-memory analytics with a new interface to directly query relational databases and cubes, harnessing the power of these external analytic engines to run calculations in-database, where the data resides, and then visualize the results.

The improvements in 'in-memory' performance do not require any training on your part. Simply enjoy the faster loading of data and more responsive interactive visual analysis environment which version 5.0 provides. However the 'in-database' features may require some orientation and instruction. The video below will show you how to connect to Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (a cube database) as well as forming connections directly to relational databases, such as Teradata, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server. And, the video will show you how to use those connections to build interactive visualizations, filter, and establish relations.

    • Predictive Modeling

TIBCO Spotfire Professional v5.0 includes a new statistical runtime engine, called TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR). TERR is not the central focus of this lesson; however, it does allow us to provide regression and classification modeling tools - which are based upon the R statistical language - accessed directly from the Spotfire main menu. These predictive analytics capabilities are presented, in detail, in the lesson below - which was extracted from course SP141 Computational Analytics.

For details on using TERR to implement other statistical algorithms within the TIBCO Spotfire Professional environment, consider taking course SP141, where the topic of Data Functions is introduced as part of a course which comprehensively covers all of the computational capabilities of TIBCO Spotfire Professional.
